Nonuniform Rational B-Splines.....disappointingly. [May. 16th, 2007|10:20 am]
[Current Music |Biffy Clyro - Semimental]

Currently enjoying (enduring?...Not sure) converting the companies product from DirectX7 to DirectX9. This for the most part seems to involve Microsoft changing the variables names from lowercase to uppercase, requiring thousands of lines of code to be changed.....thanks Microsoft.

However, I think to make up for this, that did add the wonderful question below to the documentation FAQ.

Why aren't my NURBS showing up?

I think a question we ask ourselves everyday.

Right, back to looking at the Magic the Gathering website aga....I mean work. *cough*

[Current Music |None, forgot my ipod.]

As part of my slacking off at work last week (and I'm afraid to say I've now got lots of work to do, stupid jobs expecting something back for there wages), I invented a little game, I like to call.....

GOOGLE PONG!!

(You don't need to say it that loudly though).

See inside for details..... )

You won't believe the per line cost. [Mar. 5th, 2007|04:53 pm]
[Current Mood | lethargic]

I thought I'd just share with you the sum total of all the coding I've done today, the 6th day of my new job.

{
ret|=0x100;
save|=0x100;
}

Oh, and the second line isn't actually mine, I copied it from another point in the code.

Everyone loves having a bit of a break at work, but I think they're going too far at the moment. If they just let me paint models or play gameboy at work, it'd be fine.

Wanted, 3D stuff manager, must have experience.....of stuff. [Feb. 22nd, 2007|08:26 pm]
[Current Mood | chipper]

Ah, it is so good to have internet access again. The flat is now home to a lovely little wireless network (well, I guess it's little, I haven't measured it yet), so no more driving to Potter's Bar to check my email about jobs.

Which is ironic really as I've also now got a job writting 3D stuff or manager that on Monday, I'm sure they'll fill me in. Till then, there are large amounts of Dawn of War, playing around with models and TV watching to do first. Perfect, I'm sure they won't mind me doing the same at the job, right?

I knew there would be problems living on a hill.... [Feb. 8th, 2007|11:55 am]
[Current Mood | relieved]

As a kid, I really enjoyed bobsledding, especially when I was in Australia (on the snowy mountains obviously, not the beach), so it was really cool to be able to do it again today. Sadly, today meant doing it in a ton and a half of Audi......luckily it was only the bottom of the hill, but it was pretty scary all the same. Also, for those of you that know the craziness of the magic roundabout in hemel, you should try it today, when you can't see the road markings or even half the roundabouts.

In other news, I'm currently enjoying (in the worst possible way) looking for a good IT job. So far a few interviews and the odd technical test, but nothing concrete. Fingers crossed and all. In the words of Ace Rimmer, my impossible task continues.

I don't even want to know about homebase.... [Feb. 2nd, 2007|06:08 pm]
[Current Mood | tired]
[Current Music |The klaxxons - Gravity's raindow]

After much wailing and nashing of teeth, [info]basicblack and myself are finally into our new flat.

Setting the place up, I've found out that making DIY furniture is worryingly close to professional torture, but at least the IKEA stuff is the nice Chinese type rather than the nasty Iron Maiden that is focus do it all.

Next week, in moving, attempting to get a 3 seater sofa up to a second floor flat.

Well, I'm sure it's clear to anyone living in Southern England at the moment, but, SNOW!. Guaranteed to bring out the 8 year old in me (where's my pokemon).

Christmas is finally here!

Castles need love too. [Jan. 10th, 2007|05:05 pm]
[Current Mood | surprised]

Currently I'm reading 'The Drowned World' by JG Ballard, which I've just managed to drop in the bath. Somehow fitting.

In other news, yesterday [info]basicblack and I hugged a castle. The castle in question was Windsor, and it was most enjoyable. I think this might start a trend, hugging national landmarks. As you can see, I'm using my time off very productively.

If this is what Thai Chilli tastes like, I'll leave the Prawn and Garlic alone thanks. [Dec. 11th, 2006|04:35 pm]
[Current Mood | sore]

Learnt a few important things over the weekend.

One, that the new flight security measures are a joke, and Heathrow airport has decided to make this more fun by having each member of it's staff enforce a different set of rules.

Two, that Pringles Gourmet taste like, well, this is a PG journal so I can't accurately convey what it tasted like in words, but asda are doing them half price for a reason.

And lastly, that when playing a low smash in squash, always check where your feet are......ouch.

That .66 was a pain each day. [Nov. 30th, 2006|10:56 am]
[Current Mood | accomplished]
[Current Music |Art Brut - Nag Nag Nag Nag]

Well, after trying to keep to the all important 1666.66 words a day (I like stats) I finally managed to finish writing my 50 thousands words of randomness, with nearly 13 hours to spare. The book isn't actually half finished given where I'd like it to go, so that might end up being a job for next November, and it's currently 3/4 tosh, 1/4 anything good, but it's a start.

Look, they even gave me a winners badge, it's just like being at school and getting gold stars (so the other kids told me anyway).

Today we salute..... [Nov. 17th, 2006|04:06 pm]
[Current Mood | chipper]

.....Leeds traffic wardens.

Walking around Leeds yesterday it was annoying to have to walk around what was practically an orgy of white vans parked around the entrance to the pedestrian shopping area. So, it was with extreme pleasure, that we saw a traffic warden some minutes later wandering along a ticketing each and everyone of them. His mighty powers of wardening allowed him to see through their normal rouse of putting their hazard lights on, even though there was nothing wrong with their vans.

So, despite what you might say about them otherwise, it's always funny when it happens to someone that's deserving.

I LIKE TRAINS!!! [Nov. 15th, 2006|03:58 pm]
[Current Mood | mellow]

I'm a car person. It's just one of those things you get used to having around always, so when I normally travel around the country, I'd drive there.

However, coming back from Japan, I've rediscovered the joys of taking the train places. Today it was traveling up to Leeds to see my sister at university. Not only was it cheaper and quicker than driving up, but I got to met some truly random people.

Waiting for the train, I had the pleasure to chat to a guy from Senegle that apparently works as a football agent, looking after a couple of premiership defenders as well as a load of French players. Then on the train itself, the guy sitting next to me was a marketing man from Dubai, who really wanted to talk to me about marketing to supermarkets (apparently 96% of British people aren't brand loyal, who knew).

Then to top it off, the train wi-fi connection now has a little map showing the train and where it is in the country, satisfying the inner kid in me.

See, trains can be fun too!

Pay attention, there will be questions at the end. [Oct. 28th, 2006|09:37 am]
[Current Mood | lazy]
[Current Music |Kat-tun - Rhodesia]

Learnt two important things yesterday.

One, that playing games for nearly 15 hours in a day is a good recipe for feeling tired the next day.

Two, that a litre of chocolate milk and indian food, while not exactly the health, also really does not go together (as you can see, I'm doing some really important things with my time off (and blame [info]basicblack for the unusually music choice (Hmmm, too many brackets now, better stop))).

Just hit F5 (or is it F6). [Oct. 11th, 2006|03:25 pm]
[Current Mood | worried]
[Current Music |Kasabian - Empire]

So, I'm enjoying some squash this morning with my friend Lamb. I'm 2-1 ahead and 8-6 up in the fourth, I'm about to serve for this important point, and what goes though my brain at this point....

"Better quicksave in case you stuff it up."

......sometime I worry about the amount of games I play.

I'll be able to focus again soon....I hope. [Oct. 2nd, 2006|09:29 am]
[Current Location |Potter's Bar]
[Current Mood | relaxed]

As is only proper for someone without a job, last week was spent going on holiday. Nothing exactly lavish, just up north visiting my sister at Leeds. Leeds is a surprisingly lovely city, with lots to do and great architecture so it's always a pleasure to wander around.

The rest of the week was spent lazing with [info]basicblack getting back into Xenosaga (hmmm, games with 20 minute long cut scenes, what more could you want) and playing Civilization 4 (Korea and China vs the World, the rest don't have a hope).

Lastly had an enjoyable day yesterday mainly gluing my fingers together (there was some loose attempt at putting together my new Tau models, but that seemed to be secondary to flinging small bits of plastic around the room).

At this rate, I won't need to get a job at all! (what's that about money? what's money again?)

Seoul Badguy [Sep. 21st, 2006|02:41 pm]
[Current Mood | pleased]

So, after much faff monstering yesterday (and today to be true, I've done very little with a large chunk of time), I give you part 2 of getting back from Japan.

And I honestly will tell you what 26000 won will buy you )

I don't know what to say at the post office any more. [Sep. 20th, 2006|10:03 am]
[Current Mood | tired]

So, after 44 hours straight awake, a trip to Seoul, lots of sleep and not enough unpacking, we are finally back in the UK.

Details of what 26,000 thousand won will get you in Seoul )

Anyway, it's lovely, if slightly odd to be back. Now I just have to sort out where to put all my stuff....

If at first you.....well, you know the rest. [Sep. 12th, 2006|07:01 pm]
[Current Mood | hot]
[Current Music |Hope of the states - Bonfires]

So, after Fuji Failure (tm) on Wednesday, last Friday we got up nice and early again and headed out of Tokyo to see something big and impressive. This time, it was supposedly the biggest Buddha in Japan (well, it is, but at the time we didn't know for sure). Anyway, helpfully guided by my friend Dusty from work, we set out on the surprisingly (especially for Dusty who thought it was much closer) long trip, 3 hours on a train then up a mountain.

And here is the majestic view that greeted us at the top of the mountain... )
